About This Work
This book traces the history of debt and extraction from the earliest tally sticks to the global financial system of the twenty‑first century. It examines how the money changers—the lenders, bankers, and financiers—have used debt as a tool of control, creating cycles of dependency, manufactured crises, and seizure of assets. It also chronicles the long tradition of resistance: the Mesopotamian jubilees, biblical debt cancellations, peasant revolts, populist movements, and modern campaigns for debt forgiveness.
The work is divided into seven parts, an introduction, and a comprehensive reference section. Each part can be read independently, but together they form a continuous narrative of how obligation was transformed from a bond of reciprocity into a weapon of extraction—and how that weapon can finally be disarmed.
